Creating opportunities for success

The Public Education Foundation administers a variety of scholarships that encourages and inspires students to graduate high schools and pursue higher education. In many cases, the scholarships make college and university accessible to students who might not otherwise dream of a college education.

There are scholarship opportunities for Southern Nevada’s high school seniors to attend in-state and out-of-state schools. The awards typically range from $500 to $5,000, and some are renewable annually.

To date, since the program was founded 22 years ago, the Foundation has awarded more than 4,800 scholarships totaling more than $9.5 million. Last year alone, the Foundation awarded more than $900,000 in college scholarships to 427 students. Altogether, 575 scholarships were awarded in 2015, as some students received multiple scholarships.

Our scholarship donors are corporations, associations, organizations, foundations and individuals who want to create a brighter future by encouraging education. Donors have the opportunity to determine the criteria of their scholarship and play an active role in selecting the scholarship recipients.

The Foundation provides professional assistance in establishing the scholarship funds at no cost, including advertising and promotion, clerical support, and an awards recognition luncheon in May. The luncheon gives the donors and scholarship recipients the opportunity to meet if they haven’t already done so during the selection process.

For Students

Scholarship Selection Process

Review committees select recipients based on information submitted by the applicant. Some scholarship funds have specific eligibility requirements established by the donor, such as enrollment at a particular high school or specializing in a particular field of study. Committees make their selections and the recipient is notified prior to the Scholarship Recognition Luncheon in May.

University Tuition Payment
All tuition is due by the college or university stated deadline, regardless of the status of financial aid.  If your scholarship(s)/ financial aid are not available by the university payment deadlines, you must pay your tuition yourself and generally will be reimbursed when the scholarship/aid is disbursed to your account. Please contact your university Student Financial Services about the status of your account. It is not appropriate to be attending classes without your account paid.  Universities, generally, do not defer tuition and fees for pending scholarship/aid money.
