Recent documents and studies have identified widespread and growing recognition that strong and effective leadership at the top of educational institutions are critical to improved student achievement. Unfortunately, the nation is facing a serious void in finding education leaders who have the level of skills, knowledge and experience to make higher standards in our school districts and schools a reality. School administrators are needed who will energize and lead school communities to focus on improving student performance and advancing quality educational opportunities for all children. Leaders who are able to transform schools to benefit student performance can only be prepared in high-quality leadership development programs that capitalize on cutting edge innovations grounded in research and best practices drawn from the business and education sectors. With this in mind, The Public Education Foundation, in collaboration with education and business leaders throughout Nevada, has laid the groundwork and is developing a strategic plan to design, implement and manage a state-of-the-art Leadership Institute for school trustees, superintendents, principals and central office administrators. We are identifying the attributes of successful educational leaders and working to develop programs for principals, administrators, and superintendents which will strengthen their skills to lead our nation’s schools. The Public Education Foundation believes the Leadership Institute has the potential to become a nationally recognized leader in quality administrator education that will lead participants to create real solutions to the issues facing education. Additionally, the Foundation believes that the teaching and learning that will take place at the Institute will leave a long-lasting impact on education and society and make a meaningful difference in the administration of education and schools. |
