Ruegy's Readers Bowling for Books - April
25
Ruegy's
Readers' third annual Bowling for Books campaign will be held
on April 25, 2009 at the Suncoast Hotel and Casino. Ruegy's Readers
encourages students to read more, visit school libraries more often
and emphasizes the significance of reading as a lifelong skill.
A portion of the proceeds Bowling for Books will go to Clark County
READS, a partner of Ruegy's Readers. Clark County READS will distribute
$5,000 to three Clark County School District elementary schools
for their school library. The registration form and sponsor packages
are available on the Ruegy's
Readers Web site to support this worthwhile cause.
Walmart donates $50,000 to the Clark County
READS Library Enhancement Program
Join us as we celebrate and thank Walmart for
donating $50,000 to our Library Enhancement program. The first
three public schools receiving a portion of the grant money are Helen
Herr Elementary School, Gene Ward Elementary School and R. Guild
Gray Elementary School. Each school is receiving $9,000. Two additional
schools will be selected to receive funding later in the 2008-2009
school year.
Walmart’s funding will allow Clark County READS
to replace outdated books in the schools’ libraries with new, nonfiction
books. Prior to ordering books for a library, the Foundation performs
an analysis of the library’s collection to determine which books
will have the greatest impact on the library and its students.
The hour-long celebrations will take place on
November 18, 2008.

Clark County READS is Going "Green"
Mandalay Bay Hotel & Casino, the Las Vegas
Marathon, and Clark County READS, the literacy initiative of The
Public Education Foundation, are going GREEN by recycling books,
collecting school supplies, and providing them to first-year (“green”)
elementary school teachers in the Clark County School District.
New teachers often spend their own money on books
and supplies for their classrooms, and this event will hopefully
help to alleviate some of that expense. On Monday, August
25th at 5:00pm, first-year elementary school teachers are
invited to fill a bag with free, new and gently used books as well
as free school supplies for their classrooms. Clark County READS,
The Las Vegas Marathon, and employees of the Mandalay Bay have donated
the books and supplies, which are appropriate for grades Pre-Kindergarten
through 5th Grades.
The event will be held in front of the Shark Reef
at Mandalay Bay, 3950 Las Vegas Boulevard South, Las Vegas, NV 89119.
First-year CCSD teachers will receive a special invitation through
their school sites.
