Grant Programs

Initiated in 1992 to encourage teacher innovation, improve student performance and recognize best practices, the Foundation's grant programs continue to grow. Today, our grant programs focus resources on literacy, improving school attendance, increasing parental involvement, ensuring access to technology, and promoting best practices. We encourage all Clark County teachers, counselors, support staff and administrators to apply.

Student Enrichment EQUITY GRANTS

The Foundation established its Student Enrichment EQUITY GRANT program to encourage activities that help students expand their horizons. EQUITY GRANTS have been established to "level the playing field" for low-income and at-risk children who are not receiving many of the enrichment opportunities students in more affluent communities are provided. The Foundation encourages projects that provide opportunities for students to:

1. Learn about the community and its cultural diversity through field trips.

2. Learn social skills, i.e. menu ordering, practicing acceptable behavior in public places, etc.

3. Learn real-life skills, i.e., good nutrition, personal hygiene, child safety, environmental issues, how checking accounts work, what function banks play in our everyday lives, etc.

4. Learn and experience good citizenship through community service work.

5. Begin thinking about their work careers through exposure to business speakers modeling their professionalism and describing qualifications necessary in their field of expertise.

6. Learn from opportunities provided by PTA's/PTO's in other schools that are not eligible for Student Enrichment EQUITY GRANTS.

Student Enrichment EQUITY GRANTS target those schools within the Clark County School District that have 40% or more low income students and/or a heavily under served minority population. It is the Foundation's goal to involve the parents of the targeted schools in these grants.

Grants are made on a matching funds basis. EQUITY GRANTS match (4) dollars to every one (1) raised by the grant applicant school. For example, if a school raises $750 for a project, the Foundation will provide $3,000, and the school will have a total of $3,750 to expend on the project. If the cost of the project is more than $3,750, the school and/or another source must provide the needed additional project funds.

The Foundation matches funds up to $3,000 and must be used from October 2004 to June 2005. All approved grants will be awarded in October. For additional information, please contact Kevin Biesinger at 799-1042 or kdbiesin@ccpef.org.

The Public Education Foundation is pleased to announce the release of our 2005-2006 LEADER'S CHOICE INITIATIVE grant applications. LEADER'S CHOICE INITIATIVE grants are designed to improve student achievement and produce system-wide change. These grants provide school administrators with the opportunity to identify a critical need within their system, propose a measurable solution, outline the implementation guidelines and communicate the vision of their success.

Grants of up to $20,000 will be awarded with the expectation that one grant will be awarded to each region. An additional $5,000 (for a total of $25,000) may be awarded for applications that meet the grant's definition of "innovative". Regions are encouraged to utilize these grants to establish collaborative programs among schools within their region, or a region may choose to have one school pilot a program if it represents the best thinking within their region.
