Donor of the Month
For their enthusiastic support of literacy and
generosity to our public schools, The Public Education Foundation
selected Barnes and Noble as Donor of the Month for March 2007.
Throughout the months of November and December,
Southern Nevada’s Barnes and Noble stores chose The Public
Education Foundation’s literacy initiative, Clark County
READS, as the recipient of their annual book drive. Because
of the enthusiasm of the Barnes and Noble staff and the generosity
of shoppers, more than 4,000 new books were collected and are now
being enjoyed in classrooms throughout the Clark County School
District.
In February, the books were delivered to Clark
County READS’ book distribution center by Barnes and Noble
staff. Several new teachers were invited and given the first
chance to select as many of the new books that would fit into a
large, brown, paper shopping bag to take back to their classrooms.
At various times during the year, Clark County
READS invites new teachers to the center to stock up on books for
their classrooms. Many of the books donated to the center
are gently used children’s books.
“The Barnes and Noble donation definitely
enhanced our selection of new books,” said Curtis Jones,
Clark County READS program manager. “Our new teachers
are so appreciative when they get the opportunity to shop for free
books – new or used – for their classrooms. This
large selection of beautiful new books for them to choose from
is a treat and very exciting for the teachers.”
The
Public Education Foundation appreciates Barnes and Noble for their
commitment to our teachers and children.
