Clark County READS has distributed almost 864,000 books and trained more than 1,500 reading partner volunteers since 1991. Since 1994, our Scholarship Program has awarded 2,100 college scholarships totaling almost $5 million. Artists 4 Kidz connects the creative energy of the Las Vegas community with children in the school district to enrich their exposure to the arts. The Teacher EXCHANGE™ has collected and recycled approximately 620,000 pounds of electronic hardware, paper and other materials since 2002 that would have been disposed of in local landfills. These reusable materials help each teacher save about $1,500 of his or her own money each year. Empowerment Schools are designed to improve learning and student performance through the power of public-private partnerships and engagement. Today, the Foundation works with 17 Empowerment Schools. In May 2009, local high school students awarded $20,000 to local nonprofits through We R Community, which provides service-learning to high school students by engaging them in the world of philanthropy and community service. The InterAct™ Online Learning Community was an early initiative of the Foundation. Today, the school district is a paperless organization with more than 40,000 district teachers, students, and administrators use InterAct™ to communicate via email. The Foundation has raised approximately $60 million since 1991 to improve teaching and learning in Southern Nevada’s public schools.
